Obituary of Eugene W. Ludwig

Ludwig, Eugene W., 84, Robinson passed away peacefully October 1, 2018, at Keeper of the Flame Personal Care Home, Blairsville.

Eugene was born November 4, 1933 in Seward the son of late Joseph and Carrie (Travis) Ludwig.

Gene was a dog lover.  He enjoyed his beagles, coonhounds, squirrel dogs and many household pets. He was very knowledgeable about coon hunting and won many trophies and ribbons through the years.  He attended his last bench show in May 2018 which he enjoyed immensely and was able to share his knowledge with others there. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing through the years with his father, brothers and nephews.  He was a proud supporter of both United and Laurel Valley athletic programs.  Gene enjoyed a good cup of coffee (or two!) with sugar and cream and also always was chewing Freedent Gum.  He was known to make his rounds to friends and relatives houses and have coffee and just enjoy each other’s presence.

Gene was a member of Conemaugh Valley Beagle Club, Salem Beagle Club, Robinson VFW and Korean War Veterans Association. He proudly served in the US Army from 1952 to 1955.  Gene was employed as an electrician at Bethlehem Steel and Penelec.

He is survived by brother Paul (Nancy) Ludwig, New Florence who he affectionately called “brother Paul” and sister Catherine Duncan, Seward, who he loving called “Sis”.  Several numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives who he adored and treated them as if they were his own.  He was very proud of all their accomplishments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years, Carole (Penrose) Ludwig.  With whom he shared many happy years.  brother Louis Ludwig and his wife Mary, infant brother Robert Ludwig and his brother-in-law Tom Duncan.

Our family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the following: Gene and Mary Wilson, his neighbors in Robinson.  The support they provided has been unwavering.  They showed great love for our brother and uncle.  The staff at Keeper of the Flame.  He cared about each person there and had the ability to know each of their stories because he listened to them.  They showed him much love and made his adjustment to leaving home much easier.  They also were able to get him to try to try and like mashed potatoes for the first time since his service days!

VNA Hospice of Indiana County especially Jeanie Clark, Darlene Neff and Karri Hodgkinson.  They provided peace, love and comfort for him and strength for our family which will not be forgotten.

Friends received from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday October 6, 2018 at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier Street, New Florence.  Funeral Service at 3 pm with Pastor Ruth Moore officiating.  Private interment Germany Lutheran Cemetery.
