Obituary of Cyril O. Heming

Heming, Cyril Oconnel, age 95, of New Florence passed away May 3, 2020 at home. Born December 26,1924 in Huff, he was the last surviving son of William Augustus and Nancy Ellen (Diehl) Heming. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Paul, John, Thomas, George, James Roy, Robert and William and sisters Agnes Kisamore, Alice Cramer, and Mary Hollen. Cyril is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Lena (Holupka) and his daughter and son in law, Gloria Jean and Daniel Johnston, New Florence, son and daughter in law, Ronald and Janice (Noel) Greensburg, granddaughters Danielle Johnston, PhD (New Jersey); grandson Ryan Heming (Jennette) and Julie Noel Heming, (Greensburg); a sister Rose McGinnis, Ligonier and numerous nieces and nephews. Cyril was a 1943 graduate of New Florence High School, served his country during WWII as an Airplane Engine Mechanic stationed in Watton, England repairing mosquito bombers with the 328th AAF. He worked 24 years for Imperial Coal Company and retired from Penelec having worked at the Conemaugh Power Plant for 20 years. Cyril was a lifelong member of St Mary's Catholic Church in New Florence before it's closure, and Holy Family Catholic Church in Seward. Cyril relished time spent with his family and enjoyed bicycling, bowling, the town yard sale days, Cyril loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and he got much satisfaction raising a bountiful garden and sharing with the many who checked out his "free" table on 15th Street.
