Obituary of Phillip D Ferris

Phillip D. Ferris, 89, New Florence, passed away February 11, 2024, at Quality Life Services, Westmont.  Born September 4, 1934, in Johnstown, the son of the late George and Selma (Wood) Ferris.  Also preceded in death by brothers Abe, Dean, George and Robert Ferris, sisters Salley Ferris and Ann Dollard.

Survived by loving wife of almost 69 years, Dorothy (Uncapher) Ferris. Children Phillip R. Ferris and wife Jo Anne, New Florence and Shari L. Dunlap and husband Terry, Albany, NY.  Grandchildren Mark Ferris & wife Nicole, Matthew Ferris, Madison Dunlap, Evan Dunlap.  Great-grandchildren Ella and Jacob and Eli Ferris.

 

Phil was a US Army veteran having served in Germany.  He retired from the Commonwealth of PA, Dept of General Services as a building inspector, spending most of his career as an inspector of new construction at IUP.  Phil was a member of New Florence Methodist Church, Life member of New Florence VFW Post 7622, and a life member and past president of New Florence Vol. Fire Co. where he was affectionately known as “Pappy Phil”.

 

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier Street, New Florence where service will be held 11 am Wednesday.  Pastor Sharon Hamley officiating.  Interment Armagh Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to New Florence Vol Fire Co., POB 19, New Florence or Autism Society or America https://autismsociety.org/donate/
