Obituary of Lee Hess
Dwight “Lee” Hess, 74, of Vintondale, passed into Jesus’s Heavenly arms on November 13, 2024. He was born in Johnstown on June 30, 1950, to the late Dwight E. and Cora (Boring) Hess.
He is survived by wife of 51 years the former Gale Campbell. He is also survived by a daughter Jill Kitsko, wife of Lou Kitsko of Johnstown, and grandson Bryce Kitsko. Lee has a sister Cheryl Baluh of Jeanette, and brothers Kevin married to LeAnn Hess of Vintondale, and Ronald married to Jackie Hess of Armagh. He is also survived by father-in-law Bill Campbell and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Pennee Young all of Vintondale. There are also 4 nephews and 4 nieces, 2 aunts and several cousins.
He played softball and loved lifting weights and exercising. He and his faithful dog Jordy walked every day. Lee loved working on his tractors, welding, and fabricating. In 1971 he began his career in coal mining at Blacklick Mine and Florence Mining and later in R&P Coal in general services. He served as captain of the Florence Mine Recue Team for many years where they won state competitions and a national championship in 1987. He worked over 25 years in the mines. When the mines closed, he began his second career at Indiana School District in the maintenance department.
He was a member of West Hills Community Church in Westmont. Lee will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew him.
Friends received 4-7 pm Friday and 12 pm till time of service 1 pm Saturday at Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh. Pastor Dave Street officiating. Private interment Armagh Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will be served at Blacklick Creek Christian Church after the service. In lieu of flowers please donate in Lee’s name to your church or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend their appreciation to 365 Hospice and Dr. Jason Burmeister.
