Obituary of Cynthia E. Gilmore

Cynthia Elizabeth (Shaw) Gilmore, faithful servant of our Lord, passed peacefully into heaven Friday, October 10th in her home surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard, her parents Blair and Jean (Elkin) Shaw, her father and mother-in-law, George and Margie (Post) Bracken, brother-in-law Chuck Holupka, brother-in-law Doug Bracken, and sister-in-law Nancy (Morris) Shaw. She is survived by son, Corey Gilmore and wife Kyra Kozielec-Gilmore of Johnstown; daughter, Heather (Gilmore) and husband Derek Jones of Hollidaysburg; and only granddaughter, Kendra Jones. Sister Barbara (Shaw) and Walter Smith of Mineral Point; sister Margaret (Shaw) Holupka of Dundalk, MD; sister Betty (Shaw) and Fred Ling of Dilltown; brother Edward Shaw of Endicott, NY; sister Virginia Sue (Shaw) and Merle McGee of New Florence; brother in law Gary and Jane Bracken of Pittsburgh; sister-in-law Georgette (Bracken) and August Janicsko of Vintondale; and sister-in-law Khlare (McDonald) Bracken of Warren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sadly, Cindy lost her battle with Leukemia after being diagnosed just this past June. A selfless woman of faith and courage, she witnessed God's unconditional love to all those she came in contact with. She faced her disease with spiritual confidence stating, "I am not afraid. I am in perfect peace." Being an owner of the Dillweed Bed & Breakfast provided her with a unique outlet for Christian witness. Cindy utilized her gifts of cooking, gardening, and decorating to create an atmosphere of welcome to visitors from across the country and around the world. She herself was a world traveler, having visited many countries and experiencing different cultures and cuisines. Cindy enjoyed operating the business with her son Corey. She loved meeting people and hearing their life stories. She often commented that "it's all about relationships . . . that's what matters most." Prior to the Bed & Breakfast she served as Postmaster in Dilltown for more than 15 years. She loved to read and study her bible during the early morning hours of each day and then wove a tapestry of faith into the community and her family. Cindy was a lifelong member of Blacklick Community United Methodist Church where she had served as a Sunday and Bible School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, and on various committees. Cindy enjoyed herbs, gardening, flowers, and was an active member of the Indiana County Herb Study Group for many years. She also loved the arts, music, and theatre, and supported many local venues. Cindy embraced every day as a new journey and an opportunity to learn and serve others. She will be well remembered as a dream maker to her family and friends. "To God Be The Glory!" Friends and Family will be received at the Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh on Monday October 13th from 2p to 8p. Cindy's Life Celebration will be held at the Blacklick Community United Methodist Church on Tuesday October 14th at 10am.
