Obituary of Earl Wayne Moon
Moon, Earl Wayne, 81, New Florence passed away January 23, 2016 at home. Born July 6, 1934 in Meyersdale the son of late Ira Edward and A. Leota (Merrbach) Moon. Also preceded in death by first wife Irene (Kaiser) Moon. Survived by wife Nancy Ellen (Chaney) Moon; children Edith Rummell, Johnstown; Rebecca Penrod and husband Kenneth, Johnstown; Duane D. Moon, The Plains, OH; Allen E. Moon and wife Tammy, York; grandchildren Melissa (Bennett) Letender, Finleyville; Kristen Bennett, Johnstown; Kenneth Penrod, Jr, Ebensburg; Jacqueline Sadlon, Summerville, SC; Denika Thompson, Nelsonville, OH; Kyler, Makynaa and Caleb Moon, all of The Plains, OH; Hunter Moon, York; Dustin Zofchak, Ohio; great-grandchildren Thomas, Naythen, Ashely, Johnathan, Patrick, Elizabeth, Rory and Chyler. Earl served in the U.S. Army from May 1954 till Nov. 1958. In January 1955, Earl was station in Germany where he was held prisoner in East Berlin from June 1955 to August 1955 for a total of 71 days. He was serving in Lebanon from July to September of 1958. There he was held as a prisoner for 9 days in July 1958. Earl worked in the coal mines for 28 years and was a member of UMWA local 1257. Upon retiring from the mines in 1994, Earl drove school bus for Lodestar retiring in 2002. Life member of VFW Post 734, Ligonier. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Member of Seward United Methodist Church. At Earl's request there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Family assisted by Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made Laurel Valley Ambulance Service.
