Obituary of Gene Shingler
R. Eugene “Gene” Shingler, 85, Locust, NC formerly of Seward passed away November 21, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Born July 14, 1939, in Johnstown, the son of late Blair H. and LaVerda H. (Skyles) Shingler. Also preceded in death by sons Jeffrey and Gregory Shingler, stepson Mark McIntire, and brother Blair V. Shingler.
Survived by loving wife, former Ruth (Brown), and children Karen Demercado, Miami, FL, Allen Shingler, Yuma, AZ, Stacy Cypher and husband Scott, Pittsburgh, PA Chad Shingler and wife Jacquie, Charlotte, NC. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother William Shingler and wife Patricia, sisters Beverly Henderson and husband Dennis, Barbara Beers and husband Richard, and Norma Thatcher and husband Richard.
Gene had a fulfilled life, serving in the United States Army, assigned to the 1st Calvary Division, he worked with the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), worked in various states completing a variety of construction jobs. Gene started his own construction company, RES construction. Gene was known to always lend a helping hand building and remodeling loved one’s homes or outdoor projects. Gene was an avid hunter, loved old cars and watching baseball. In the summertime in PA, Gene took his 1959 Ford Edsel to car shows. Gene enjoyed going to the various activities that his grandchildren were participating in.
Friends received from 10 am until time of service at 1 pm Monday at Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh. Pastor Sharon Hamley officiating. Interment Armagh Cemetery.
