Dear Mom,
Thanks for the memories-
The Kool-aid icing birthday cake we had to chuck over the hill.
The perennial 60's outfit of white button-down blouse and black pedalpushers (except for town, a black straight skirt). "You looked smashing!"
The ugly curtain material for my bedroom window. We bought it because it was the cheapest. It was one dollar. (I can still picture that material more than 50 years later. We're talking really ugly!)
The smell and taste of crusty bread. You made 10 loaves/week. Sometimes you made cinnamon rolls with some of the dough. I always waited patiently for the end piece fresh out of the oven!
Uncle Harry teaching you how to drive.
Showing Uncle Harry AGAIN how to make fudge!
How to make dinner for 8 or more people with nothing in the fridge!
Picking blackberries, wild huckleberries, elderberries, and Dan climbing the trees to get wild grapes for jam and juice!
The dinners of pie or coffee soup.
How you said, "You're never too poor for a little soap and water!"
Love ya Mom. Say Hi to Jesus for me!

Very sad that my Grandmother has passed away and that I cannot be there. What I will always be thankful for is her unconditional love and encouragement. She always gave me a big hug and told me she loved me and from a young child up she always gave me lots of encouragement to live a happy life and do the things I wanted. Despite never having much money of her own, when I was child I could always look forward to her birthday cards every year with $10 or $20 and even as a young lad I knew money did not come easy for her so I always greatly appreciated that. In her later years we had many philosophical discussions about life and living and I will miss sitting in her kitchen and making her laugh with my witty and strong opinions. We certainly had some great laughs over the years. To honor her is to live a positive life and be a positive influence on others and that is what I endeavor to do every day.
