Obituary of William Mack Schnavely
William Mack Schnavely, 84, New Florence died May 24, 2012 upon his return to St. Andrew's Village, after a hospitalization at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1927 in Altoona. He graduated from Altoona H.S., as well as attending Penn State and George Washington Universities for Aeronautical Engineering. He served in the US Marine Corps at the end of WWII and during the Korean War, where he served stateside as a mechanic on Marine planes. During and after college he worked as an instructor and opener for Arthur Murray's in Altoona, Johnstown and Washington DC. He was retired as an insurance broker for Mutual of Omaha. He loved to read, taught classical ballroom dancing to aids and residents of St. Andrew's Village. He did volunteer work for the Democratic Party and campaigns. He helped many area residents with rides to doctors and other errands. He liked to walk, especially at State Game Lands and his family was important to him. Survived by son Terry, New Florence; step-daughter Connie Bowers and husband Ted; grandchildren Jason and Brook; 4 great-grandchildren, all of Bolivar; nieces and nephews Brent, Brenda, Karen, Joanne, Debbie, Kathy, Bill and Sandy; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family and special friend Linda Decker and their dog Annie. Preceded in death by parents Harry A. and Clide (Keasey) Schnavely; son William B. who died January 8, 2012; older brother Harry; twin sister Betty who he was very close to his entire life. Friends received 2-4 & 7-9 pm Thursday June 7th and noon till time of memorial service 1 pm Sunday June 10th at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139Ligonier St, New Florence, Rev. Michael Fischer officiating. Joint interment and committal service with his son William B. "Bill" Schnavely will immediately follow at Germany Lutheran Cemetery.
