Obituary of John E. Marino

John Marino, 82, of Bolivar passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12,2012 after a brief illness. John was born Oct. 28,1930, a son of the late Joseph and Orpha (Muir) Marino. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War, assigned as an aviation mechanic. He was a steelworker before becoming an instructor and later a director of admissions at Vale Technical Institute. John was an artist and a craftsman designing creations from essential cabinets to heirloom cradles. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper and sports fan who knew no strangers. Whether traveling near or far, he never failed to connect with someone he knew. John was honored by the American Red Cross for his years of exceptional service as an Apheresis Platelet Donor of more than 700 platelet products. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Laura, son John E. Marino, Jr. and daughter Wendy J. Marino. John is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Dolores (Peer) Marino. He still carried her 5th grade picture in his wallet. He is also survived by five children, David (Kim) Marino, Tammy Short, Todd (Lois) Marino, Susan (Ed) Sagan and Scott (Colleen) Marino. Surviving brothers are George (Emily) Marino, Robert (Nancy) Marino and Don Marino. Each of his 11 grandchildren and his great-grandson delighted in Papp/s rumbling voice as infants and share happy memories of holiday celebrations at Pappy and Grandma's house. His grandchildren are Andrea Smith; Rob Marino; Mitchell, Rachel and Madison Short; Evan Marino; Joshua and Noah Altimus; Brendan, Sarah and Joseph Marino. John's great-grandson is Alasdair Smith. In lieu of monetary donations, apheresis platelet donations to the American Red Cross in his memory are always in need and welcome. In honoring John's request, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held later. Family assisted by Stuart Funeral Home.
