Obituary of Mollie I Spory
Mollie Iona Riddell Spory, 91, of New Florence, PA passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Ligonier Gardens. She was born May 27, 1921 in New Florence PA to Herbert M. Riddell and Hazel Hill Riddell. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Riddell, mother Hazel Riddell and brother Herbert Riddell Jr., all of New Florence and daughter-in-law, Karen Benson Spory, Colorado Springs, CO. She is survived by husband Ralph Merle Spory, Ligonier, PA, sister Marjorie Riddell Fox, Seward, PA, son Ralph Spory Jr., Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Bonnie S. Ford and husband James C. Ford, Kernersville, NC, grandchildren David, Kelley, Erick, Kent, Chris, Kirk and 7 great grandchildren. Mollie was a graduate of New Florence High School Class of 1939, recieved a Bachelors Degree from the University of Indiana-Pennsylvania Class of 1965 and continued in graduate studies in her fields of interest. She was a home economics teacher at Laurel Valley and Ligonier High Schools. She was recognized and honored as 1977 Pennsylvania teacher of the year by the American Home Economics Association and Family Circle. In addition to teaching, she enjoyed, camping, traveling, and cooking, and was an accomplished artist. Mrs. Spory served as the Mayor of New Florence, PA for many years. She was a member of Fort Ligonier Chapter No. 347 Order of the Eastern Star. The family of Mollie Spory wishes to thank the staff of Ligonier Gardens for their comfort, care and support. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 28th at the Oak Grove Church of Christ, 3742 Rt. 711, Ligonier, PA. A memorial service officiated by Minister Charles Burd will follow at 11:00. Dinner will be served at the church at 1:00 p.m. following internment at Fairfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlen Communities Home Health Hospice, 125 Kalassay Drive, Ligonier, PA 15658 or the Oak Grove Church of Christ, 3742 Rt. 711, Ligonier , PA 15658.
