Obituary of Joseph Willard Robey
Joseph W. Robey, Jr., 83, of New Florence, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Born April 30, 1930 the son of the late Joseph W. Robey, Sr. and Annie L. (Messick) of Pomfret, MD. The beloved husband of Patricia Ann “Patsy” (Johnson). He grew up working his father’s tobacco farm and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1947. As the City of Alexandria, VA Police Department Training Officer he had the responsibility of training all incoming cadets and was later employed with the U.S. Federal Marshall Service as a court room officer in Alexandria, VA and Pittsburgh. He was an avid Marksman and competed with for the City of Alexandria Police Department Pistol Team, achieving and expert ranking. He was an enthusiastic bowler, boater and fisherman and loved the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary Janice (Grant); Gwendolyn A. Robey and Dalton N. Robey and nephew Michael D. Secrist. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Joseph is survived by the love of his life “Patsy” and children Cynthia A. Wassenberg and husband John J. of Sterling, VA; Patricia T. Swank and her fiancé Ted Grohal of Johnstown; David B. Robey of Woodbridge, VA and Joseph V. Robey and friend Francis Smith of Portsmouth, VA; MaryAlice M. Conrad and husband Ronald, New Florence; and Kevin Jacobs and his wife Kimberly, Richmond, VA. Grandchildren: Jessica L. Lawson, and friend Cory Nihoff, of Johnstown; Klayton B. Hawkins, New Florence Stephen A. Robey, Chesapeake, VA; Lauren Cefaretti and her husband Ryan, Pasadena, MD.; Alexandra E. Wassenberg, Sterling, VA; Devon A. Robey, Fairfax, VA; Charla M. Conrad, New Florence; Cybil Swank and David J. Swank, Derry. Great-Grandchildren: Austin D., Joshua W. and Kaleigh A. Lawson; Cash A. and Ava M. Hawkins and Samantha Swank. He is also survived by his sister Marilynn JoAnne Robey, of Elm City, NC as well as many nieces and nephew. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Sunday, May 19, 2013 in the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, 425 Bridge Street, Seward, Monday, May 20, 2013 at 1 PM with internment at West Fairfield Cemetery, New Florence.
