Obituary of Edgar Franklin Pierce
Edgar Franklin “Sonny” Pierce, 87, of Dilltown, PA passed away on Thursday August 22, 2024. He was born on October 14, 1936, in Saltsburg, PA. He was the son of the late Edgar Franklin and Elsie (Shirley) Pierce. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
His family and friends were so important to him, and he loved spending time with them. He had many hobbies including antiquing, yard sales, fishing, yard work, camping in his RV, fly fishing at Ole Bull State Park, taking things apart and putting them back together. He enjoyed going to Red Lobster with his family and stopping at Stiles’ Koolit Korner for an ice cream cone. He loved meeting and talking to people everywhere he went. We called him our social butterfly.
He graduated from Saltsburg Joint High School in 1954 where he participated in football, basketball and school plays. He was president of his senior class. He served in the U.S. Army where he spent time in Tokyo, Japan. He was a machinist/supervisor at various plants in the area until he retired to take care of his wife.
Edgar will be sadly missed by his son Jeffrey Pierce and wife Rosslyn of Penn Run, PA; his brother Everett “Butch” Pierce and wife Carol, of Mississippi; along with many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and their families. Edgar will be especially missed by his grandchildren Jeremy Pierce and wife Shannon, of Vintondale, PA; Aleah Pierce and husband Joseph Tokash, of Cresson, PA; Miranda Lute and husband Cody, and great-grandchildren Theo Lute, of Blairsville, Pa, all of whom he treasured.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty (DeForno) Pierce of 64 years and his daughter Christine Pierce.
Friends received 11 am till time of service 1 pm Monday at Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh. Rev. Scott Hamley officiating. Interment Brush Valley Cemetery. Garve site military rites by US Army and Blairsville Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Edgar’s name may be made to American Heart Association or a veteran charity of one’s choice.
