Obituary of John Oliver

Raymond John Oliver, 82, New Florence native of Robinson, passed away December 3, 2024, at Forest Hills Personal Care Home.  Born June 8, 1942, in Robinson, the son of the late Frank “Fritz” and Alberta (Penrose) Oliver.  Also preceded in death by wife Carolyn “Carrie” (Hood) Oliver, brothers Charles and Carl Oliver and sister Lana Sulik and infant sister Clara Ann Oliver.

 

Survived by daughters Stacy Feighner and husband Tony Carrolltown, Christi Roddy and husband John Patrick, New Florence.  Grandchildren Joshua Muir and wife Amanda, Jacqueline Westrick and husband Ryan, Jillian Roddy and fiancé Andru Boring, Gregory Roddy, Nicholas Roddy.  Great-grandchildren Haylie Muir, Arya Boring, John and Zeke Westrick. Brothers William Oliver and wife Laura, Texas, Dennis Oliver and wife LaRue, Oklahoma, Patrick Oliver and wife Carrie Anne, New Florence; Sisters Linda Garland, Robinson, Denise Wynn, New Florence, Debbie McClure and husband Bruce, New Florence.  Sisters-in-law Dolly Oliver and Linda Oliver.

 

John was a US Navy Veteran of Vietnam War, avid hunter and fisherman, who enjoyed the outdoors, mushroom hunting, and country and bluegrass music.  He was very artistic and a talented musician who played guitar, banjo and fiddle.  John worked as a coalminer, bricklayer and lumberjack.

 

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence where service will be held 1 pm Saturday.  Pastor David O’Hara officiating.  Interment Germany Lutheran Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left at www.thestuartfuneralhomes.com
