Dr. Robert S. Korneke, 60, of Ligonier, passed away peacefully Saturday April 26th 2014, in Excela Hospital, Latrobe, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 1st 1953 in Latrobe; son of the late Werner Korneke and Patricia Korneke Mead.
Dr. Korneke was a 1982 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine. He was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Society. He received his Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 and his Bachelor of the Arts from Washington and Jefferson College in 1976.
Dr. Korneke was a commissioned officer in the National Health Service Corp serving from 1982 to 1985.
He practiced Dentistry in the town of New Florence, from 1985 until his death. Dr. Korneke was a skilled and compassionate dentist who loved his work and his patients. He treated everyone he met as a friend.
He was active in his community serving on the Board of the Ligonier Valley Endowment and the Ligonier Valley YMCA.
Dr. Korneke was a member of Pike Run Country Club for almost 20 years and truly enjoyed shooting sports. He was a member of the Ruffed Grouse Society, Trout Unlimited and the New Florence Lion’s Club.
He was an avid fly fisherman, who always remarked that trout live in the beautiful places. You could find Dr. Korneke, spring through summer fly fishing, but his passion was bird hunting.
He was an extraordinary grouse hunter who loved his bird dogs. On a cold blustery day while most were inside by a warm fire, you would find Bob Korneke with his beloved pointers roaming the Pennsylvania woods in search of grouse.
But most of all Bob Korneke was a devoted loving husband and father, who always sought out the best in everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Thomasine Camino Korneke and a daughter Lauren C Korneke. Along with a brother, James Korneke of Pittsburgh, brother-in-law Michael Camino and wife Kathy; nephews Anthony and Rob Camino (wife Jordan).
